Using Special Characters

  • In addition to using the utilities mentioned in the Utilities page, you can use keyboard shortcuts, as shown in these PDF charts from the InDesign Bible series, to access many special symbols and European accented characters. (Right-click or Control+click these PDF links, then choose Save Target As [Windows] or Download to Disk [Mac], if they do not display properly in your browser.)
  • A great source for information on special characters and foreign fonts is the University of Oregon's Yamada Language Center. The InDesign Bible series also features a handy chart of characters used (PDF; right-click or Control-click this PDF link, then choose Save Target As [Windows] or Download to Disk [Mac], if it does not display properly in your browser) in various European languages, to help spot incorrect accent and character usage.
