Major Changes Since Publication
InDesign CS3 Bible Updates
- There are no updates at this time.
InDesign CS2 Bible Updates
- The Autocorrect feature does not let you use special
characters in its dialog boxes, so you cannot have InDesign automatically
replace two hyphens with an em dash as the book says you can.
- Adobe has changed how you access Version Cue workspaces. First, you
only get the Use Adobe Dialog button in Open a File, Save, Export, and
Load dialog boxes if you bought the full Creative Suite. (These let
you open Version Cue workspaces and the files within them.) Second,
If you bought the full Creative Suite, you can use either these Version
Cue-enabled dialog boxes or the separate Adobe Bridge application
to open Version Cue workspace. If you bought a stand-alone copy of InDesign,
you must use Adobe Bridge. Note that you can open Bridge from
InDesign quickly by choosing File
Bridge
(Option+ +O or Ctrl+Alt+O)
- Please note these corrections to the QuickStart chapter: In the "Working with Frames" section on page 5, the correct menu command in step 8 is Edit
Duplicate, not Item Duplicate. In the "Working with Lines" section, the X: step 4 on page 11 should
be 4p7, not 3p. On page 12, in the "Working with Graphics" section, step 1 should say to simply click the Rectangle Frame tool, not click and hold.
- Please note this correction to Chapter 3: On pages 82-83, the "Skip by Ledin" bullet should say that enabling this option affects how text wraps when either Jump Object or Wrap Around Bounding Box is selected in the Text Wrap pane.
InDesign CS Bible Updates
- You can
download an updated
Chapter 37: Using
Scripts (PDF) that includes the JavaScript examples missing from
the printed book's chapter.
- InDesign CS files cannot be read by InDesign 2, even
if you export to the InDesign Interchange format as noted in the InDesign
CS Bible and in the Adobe InDesign documentation. This function
was removed after the book went to press, and Adobe has no alternative
method for downward compatibility. The company says it will try to add
downsave capability in a future release but can make no promises.
- The release of Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther) brings a few changes.
Among the most significant is the fact that the shortcuts for several
palettes (Character Styles, Paragraph Styles, Transform, Stroke, Table,
and Transparency) conflict with shortcuts for the new Mac OS X 10.3's
Exposé feature; you'll need to change the shortcuts either in
InDesign or in Exposé. Another significant change is that the
hard-to-find Print Center in Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar) is now more easily
available in the System Preference control panel in Panther, under its
new name Print & Fax.
